Maximo 'Global Search' Powerhouse
IBM Maximo Control Desk has a feature called Global Search that collates data from different modules in Maximo starting from Incidents, Problems, Service Requests and presents it to the user.
Today, we will talk about a powerful feature that is available in IBM Control Desk 7.6 series. “Global Search Application” . This application helps us to search data across multiple modules using indexed data. Imagine a mini google working inside Maximo.
There are multiple ways that allows us to search information in Maximo. There are options available to even connect to external knowledge bases. For example you can do a google search by passing the search keyword over a url.
The cherry on the top for this feature is that, it allows you to search attachments as well.
The search engine searches not only the application records but any files that are attached to the records. In addition, the search engine searches across all of the attributes in all of the records to find matches. Files with extensions
.xml
,.htm
,.html
,.doc
, or.txt
are searchable.

Search from multiple sources is really a useful tool for users
Things to Ponder:
Is this going to be enhanced in Maximo Application Suite 8.0 ?
Can this be part of the core Maximo Application Management instead of just being available for control desks ?
Can this be enhanced further to include other applications across Maximo ? I am sure we would love to search Assets, Workorders and PMs
Can this be enhanced to link with inhouse knowledge bases / ticketing systems like BMC Remedy, ServiceNow ?
Can be this be integrated with Start center ? and give the user to search right on the landing page instead of going to different applications ?
Can this help to provide deep links ?
Can we have predefined search filters ? Like saved queries ?
Hope you learnt something new today, I am hoping that we should get the benefits of this powerful application in MAS 8.0 or in the future fix packs across Maximo application portfolio to make users life easier.
Thanks for reading and do subscribe, if you haven’t yet.
Let me know what you think ? Do you think it will help the Maximo community ?
