It has been some time since I last wrote an article and unfortunately, I fell behind schedule. Let's pick up where we left off and continue our discussion about the various companies in which a Maximo career can flourish.

Freelancing:
As a Maximo freelancer, you would offer your expertise in implementing, configuring, customizing, and maintaining the Maximo software to clients on a project-by-project basis.
Freelancing in Maximo can offer many benefits, such as flexible work arrangements, a chance to work with a diverse range of clients and industries. Freelancers typically work independently and are responsible for finding their own clients and projects, negotiating rates and project timelines, and delivering quality work to satisfy the client's requirements.
To succeed as a Maximo freelancer, you should have strong technical skills in Maximo, as well as project management and communication skills to work effectively with clients. Additionally, building a strong professional network and maintaining a portfolio of successful projects can help you attract new clients and grow your freelance business.
Product Based Companies:
As a Maximo expert, your role in Product based companies {Eg: a utility major corporation, and transportation corporation, an energy major, a telecom major, an automotive industry etc.}. You will be directly involved with the business process involving the product that company is specialized in.
You will provide best practices and recommendations for optimizing the use of Maximo and achieving business objectives such as improving asset reliability, reducing downtime, increasing efficiency, and lowering maintenance costs. You will also assist with troubleshooting any issues or problems that may arise during the use of Maximo.
Overall, your goal as a Maximo expert would be to help organization leverage the power of Maximo to improve their asset management practices and achieve their business goals.
Consulting Companies:
Consulting companies in the Maximo ecosystem are usually companies that are specialized in Maximo (mostly they deal with only handful of products like Maximo, SAP, Oracle etc.) implementation projects and has extensive experience in all facets of Maximo. They usually have Maximo Consultants specialized in each area of Maximo (Eg: Upgrade experts, WebSphere experts, Training experts), they also have specialization in building add-ons to Maximo and custom plug-ins to use with Maximo. They will be working with multiple clients across multiple projects.
As a Maximo consultant, your job would be to help organizations implement, configure, and customize Maximo to meet their specific business requirements. The expectations for a Maximo consulting job may vary depending on the organization and the specific role, but some general expectations may include:
Technical expertise: A Maximo consultant should have a strong understanding of the technical aspects of the software, including installation, configuration, customization, and integration with other systems.
Business knowledge: A Maximo consultant should also have a good understanding of the client's business needs, processes, and goals in order to tailor the Maximo solution to meet those needs.
Communication skills: A Maximo consultant should be able to effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders to understand requirements, explain technical concepts, and provide guidance and recommendations.
Problem-solving skills: A Maximo consultant should be able to analyze problems and develop solutions to address them, whether through configuration changes, customizations, or other means.
Project management skills: A Maximo consultant may be responsible for managing the implementation of the Maximo solution, including project planning, scheduling, and coordination of resources.
Overall, the expectation for a Maximo consulting job is to help clients leverage the capabilities of Maximo to improve their asset management practices and achieve their business objectives.
Trainer Companies:
These companies are those that provide trainings, classroom sessions, reading materials on Maximo. You will be expected to provide training as a trainer or help in producing training content and documentations. This is not an easy task, you need to be a constant learner and be UpToDate on what’s happening in the Maximo space and an expert in different areas of Maximo.
Consulting Organizations (a.k.a Service Organizations):
These organizations have specialized COEs (Center of Excellence) for Maximo and specialize in dealing with multiple clients and multiple projects. They possess extensive knowledgebase on Maximo projects and can provide both implementation and support type of services.
OEM:
You end up working for IBM :-)
